2006 Trip to Switzerland

I planned a trip, someday, to Switzerland.  I would most definitely do it before I got too old to go but not yet.  I still had kids at home, financial needs more important and still plenty of work to be done here.

Then the Gubler family got wind of my dream and before I even knew what had happened my dream had become a reality.  The plane ticket, lodging, money to cover every single expense were soon dropped in my lap. I know miracles happen.  I watched many that summer. And I will never forget that experience.

Included on this page are links and commentaries about my wonderful trip of a lifetime.

I have posted information about the towns, and how to research on my blog
hunt4swiss.blogspot.com.

Surprise, then in 2015, Dean and I both went back to spend our time in the Aargau Canton Archives.  This area had allowed the LDS Church to microfilm their records - so they are sitting 2 hours away from me probably in a Granite Mountain.  The only problem is that they are not allowed to show them to us.  They have been microfilmed, I assume, for protection against loss and fire, but not for family viewing.  That's okay - I have connections.

Once again, the Gubler family pooled their resources and sent us to research.  We stayed at B&B's this time and our favorite was by far Rhinefelden.  We stayed with Leah and her sweetie.  They were amazing.  They felt comfortable enough to leave us alone with their house while they took a vacation to France.  We weren't very much fun anyway, we spent all day at the archives and then all evening transferring photos of records to Google Drive, formatting our drives and getting ready for the next day.  We played a little Ingress and collected keys the countryside over.  That was our souvenirs.  Ingress has since changed, so I hope we haven't lost our images of all of the spots we stopped.  I haven't had the heart to check as I believe they are probably gone.

We saved a few days at the end to go to each of my ancestors hometowns and take photos so I could picture the area as I was doing research.  I believe Horben was one of my favorites, as it seemed we had stepped back in time to when our ancestors actually lived there, maybe even with some extra wear and tear than when they were there.

It amazes me of everything I treasure in my memory, with the exception of family and friends, these two trips are it.  I hope that those memories never fade.
